A while back I set up my Arduino to measure temperature, humidity and light and forward to a website so I could monitor it over time. It was on a breadboard but I wanted to clean it up by building a nice PCB shield. A few weeks ago it arrived from the printer and tonight I had a chance to solder it up. Everything worked!

At the bottom is an Arduino Uno connected to 9V power. Above that is the Arduino wifi shield. My custom shield is on top.

my PCB

straight headers

5mm green status LEDs

2x 220 ohm resistors for LED

photocell to measure light

1.5k ohm (I think) resistor for the photocell

1k ohm resistor for the temperature sensor

DHT22 temperature and humidity sensor

It’s a small step forward in my mechatronics experience, but I’m rather pleased how everything worked together.

Now, back to cars (here’s a photo from mine)

How I read this: “I did a computer thing, but I want to do it better so I did a better computer thing.”

Nice

I love working with the Arduino board, but still need to learn more about actually coding in Arduino language, as I do all my programming in LabView using arduino libraries.

That was basically my process. Breadboarding is fairly easy but I wanted to see if I knew what I was doing in EAGLE.

Where did you get the custom PCB? It looks pretty slick!

I’m pumped that there’s interest for this stuff on here! Looks like a great project, good job on the board too! I wonder if people would be interested in a sub-blog for this stuff. I’m currently working on some kinect things that I’d love to share later.

Have you thought of getting an Arduno Yun so you can eliminate the wifi shield and reduce the stack height? Additional money, yes, just curious.

That’s a version of the board I’ve never played with. Maybe I’ll add it to my Christmas list with the DUE.

This sort of thing is big on my list of hobbies (I did mechanical engineering and mechatronics in school). Have lots of projects in varying states of completion but my main one at the moment is building a robot with the machine shop we’re assembling in the office. For that I’m hoping to use a Kinect, too.

Sweet! I have a similar background of mechanical engineering (although only a few mechatronics projects in school). I’m mostly self-taught as far as the programming side of things goes. That YardBot seems like an awesome project, and I’ve got to say, I’m jealous of any office that lets people build and play with a machine shop. My goals are far less practical, as I’m just building a classic Nerf sentry turret for kicks.

Yeah, once it’s running it will be a fantastic place to be, and I’m lucky that it’s even a possibility. It’s very much for work, though, because I work full time for a software development company and part time for an engineering firm building heat exchangers (owned by the same people, in the same building).
